How to protect your photos and data on matrimony sites. The difference between real and fake photo blur, how to control who sees your photos, and what to demand from any platform.
Privacy & Photo Protection on Matrimonial Sites
For many women, the photo is the biggest worry about any matrimony site: 'Who will see my picture, and where could it end up?' The good news is that photo protection is now a matter of technical design, not luck. But beware: not all 'photo protection' is equal. There's a fundamental difference between real, server-enforced blur and a fake blur anyone can bypass. This guide explains the difference and how to actually control your photos.

Warning: 'CSS blur' is not protection
Many sites simply blur your photo in the browser while sending the full original image to the viewer's device. Anyone can open developer tools and download the original in one click. Real protection means the server refuses to serve the original image at all to anyone who isn't authorized.
What real photo control means
Real control means you own the 'who' and 'when' in a way that can't be worked around:
- Locked by default. No one sees your original photos until you explicitly allow it.
- Reveal to one person, in one conversation. You reveal your photos to someone you trust inside a specific conversation — not to everyone at once.
- Server-enforced. The decision is applied at the data layer itself — the unauthorized viewer never receives the image, so nothing leaks.
On Zawjni, 'Hidden until I reveal' does exactly this: the server refuses to serve your photos to anyone you haven't revealed them to in a conversation. Everyone else sees only a locked placeholder.
Three layers of protection built into Zawjni
Not marketing promises — server-enforced controls that you hold.
You decide who can message you
No message reaches you from someone you haven't approved. Any contact attempt is held as a 'request' in a separate tab that you accept or silently decline — the other person is never told, and a decline can't be re-sent.
Your photos stay locked until you reveal them
With 'Hidden until I reveal', the server refuses to hand your photos to anyone you haven't revealed them to inside a conversation — not a CSS blur that can be bypassed. You reveal, to one person, in one conversation.
Your guardian stays informed (optional)
You can add a wali who receives a daily summary of who you've started conversations with — names and a count only, never message content. Family reassurance without sacrificing your privacy, and you can turn it off anytime.
