How is marriage concluded in Algeria?
Under the family code, marriage is concluded before a notary or the civil status officer at the municipality, in the presence of the bride's wali and two witnesses, and both partners need a medical certificate beforehand. Many families recite the Fatiha before or alongside the civil contract.
If one partner lives outside Algeria or holds another nationality, extra documents are needed depending on the case; ask the municipality or the Algerian consulate before you start.
